The Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Company (LMVFC) has been awarded $250,000 in grant funding from the United States Department of Homeland Security under its “Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.”

The volunteer fire company received official notification of the award today from the offices of both Senator Barbara A. Mikulski and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett.

The company would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who helped make the grant possible.

At 1639 hours, Longmeadow was alerted to assist Maugansville on a kerosene heater fire inside a house at 14114 Cearfoss Pike.  Engine 13-2 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing from a 2 1/2 story single-family home.  The structure was actually two houses connected together.  Crews from Company 27 assisted with fire attack on the second floor and attic, as well as extensive overhaul operations on both houses.  Longmeadow units cleared at 1951 hours.
