At 1042 hours, units from
Longmeadow and Hagerstown were alerted for a brush fire in the area of
Eastern Blvd. and Security Road. Units responding found a working brush
fire on Allegheny Power's Antietam Substation property off Eastern Blvd.
Because the fire had consumed over an acre and was moving quickly into a
wooded area, Chief Latimer requested an additional engine company and
brush truck. Security Road Command was established and crews from
Longmeadow and Hagerstown began working to bring the fire under control.
With the assistance of Funkstown's mini-pumper and a brush truck from
Leitersburg, the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes. After insuring
the fire was extinguished, units cleared shortly after noon.
