2-Alarmer on Dual Highway

At 2028 hours, the Engine and Truck were alerted on the second-alarm assignment to Funkstown's area on the Dual Highway for the Commercial Building Fire.  Initial units were dispatched for an "alarm sounding" on the building across the street and arrived in the area to find "fire showing" from the structure.  Engine 27-1 was utilized on the scene, while Truck 27 was sent to transfer to Truck 1's (HFD) Quarters, due to both city trucks operating on the fire.  While on the station fill, Truck 27 responded on the second Funkstown Box to the Prime Outlets off Sharpsburg Pike for smoke in the building.  After returning to the Meadow, the Engine and Truck were then alerted on the HFD Box for odor of smoke in the apartment building, which ended up being a malfunctioning water heater.  On the evening, the Meadow handled six calls from 1726 hours to 2258 hours, with no EMS runs, three box alarms, a task force alarm, and two local alarms.

2-Alarmer in Clear Spring

As the Franklin County fires were winding down, FRC began receiving reports of a house fire on South Martin Street in downtown Clear Spring.  Rescue Squad 13 from Maugansville was returning from the Barn Fire in Mercersburg and arrived immediately after dispatch reporting heavy fire showing.  Deputy Chief 4 (Warren Royce) arrived on scene and established command, requesting a second-alarm.  The Meadow was alerted on the second-alarm assignment and responded with five personnel on Engine 27-1 under the direction of Deputy Chief Hopkins.  27-1 first arrived at staging and then was given the RIT assignment.  Before even getting off of the Engine, the assignment was changed to assist with offensive operations.  Deputy Chief Hopkins was assigned as the Safety Officer, and Senior Firefighter Scott Adams led the crew in opening up the side of the house and roof for extension.  Engine 27-1 returned to the Meadow just prior to 0100 hours.

Franklin County Building Fire

At 1521 hours, Engine (Tanker) 27-1 was alerted on the Franklin County 8-04 Box for the reported shed fire on Guitner Road in Hamilton Township.  Tanker 13 from Maugansville was already en route on the call as well.  The Engine responded with five personnel under the direction of Chief Eckstine.  When units arrived on scene, they found a large warehouse on fire.  Crews from 27 assisted with fire attack and overhaul of the structure, while Tanker 27-1 hauled ten loads of water in the shuttle.  While this fire was occurring, another Franklin County box was sounded for a working barn fire in Montgomery Township (Mercersburg).  Multiple units from Washington County responded on this fire as well.  The Meadow was not present however, as 27-1 was already committed on the first fire.  Engine 27-1 returned to the Meadow in about five hours.

Apartment Fire in Washington Township

At 0720 hours, the Engine Company was alerted on the Working Fire Assignment as the RIT for the building fire on Buchanan Trail East in Waynesboro's (Franklin 2) response district.  Rescue-Engine 27-2 responded with five under the direction of Deputy Chief Hopkins.  Upon arrival, 27-2 set up next to Truck 17 (New Franklin) and established RIT on Side A.  While the Deputy Chief did the walk-around, the crew set up the tarp with all the equipment, and deployed a 200' 1 3/4" attack line off of the Rescue as the RIT line.  The crew assisted Truck 17 with setting ground ladders to the second floor.  As the incident became more stabilized, Command 2 (Chief 2) disbanded RIT and reassigned the Meadow Boys to interior overhaul operations.  After assisting with hooking ceilings and extinguishing some small spot fires, the crew returned equipment and assisted Truck 17 with stowing ground ladders, before returning to the Meadow in a little over two hours.  A special thanks to Greencastle (Franklin 3) who helped rack our line while our crews operated interior.
