| 28 October 2007 Cold Lunch As the Truck crew sat at Beef O'Bradys waiting on lunch, Franklin Co. alerted Headquarters that they would need the services of Truck 27 and Engine27-1 for a house fire on Bemisdefer Rd. (Penn.) Truck 27 responded with the Deputy Chief, before Engine 27-1 could respond Headquarters alerted the Engine Co. for a Automatic Fire Alarm at 18026 Manchester Dr. Engine 27-2 responded with 4 including Chief 27. Upon arrival, 27-2 crews went to work only to determine a malfunctioning detector. As for crews that went to Franklin Co., company 3(Greencastle) put all units in service holding only units on scene. Truck 27 returned to the station while Eng. 27-1 went to Co. 3 to fill a transfer.

17 October 2007 Fatal on 81 At 2136 hrs Engine Co. 27 was alerted for a vehicle fire that was upgraded to a PI with fire on I-81 at exit 10. Chief 13 advised headquarters that they could see heavy smoke from the Maugansville Fire Station and asked for Engine 26-3(Halfway) to be started. Rescue-Engine 27-2 responded with 6 and the Assistant Chief, Engine 27-1 and Chief went with 4. Upon arrival, 27-2 dumped its tank into Engine 131 while the Assistant Chief took manpower and PIO under charge. When 27-1 arrived on scene, Chief 27 took command of water supply while both crews from 27-2 and 27-1 waited in manpower. Crews then assisted in fire suppression and body removal before returning to the station. Thanks to Co. 10 (Funkstown) for handling a EMS call while they were in "The Meadow" filling a transfer. |

15 October 2007 Thanks to Truck 1 Earlier in the morning truck 1 was announced as being out of service, this made Truck 27 due at 11824 Robinwood Dr. for a kitchen fire with a burn patient at 0841 hrs. Truck 27 responded with 6 under the expert direction of FF Rob Flint. The truck arrived on scene and told by command to set up fans to help with ventilation. After fulfilling this task, crews went inside to help check for extension. Command then placed Truck 27 in service. The burn patient was airlifted to the burn center.

14 October 2007 Last day at Harvest Festival At around 0730 hrs a crew of 4 led by Chief 27 went back to Arendtsville for the last day of the Harvest Festival. While on duty the crews responded to 3 calls, a PI with 1 priority 1 patient, wires down, and to set up a landing zone for the Life Lion helicopter. After returning home, Truck 27 was alerted for a possible building fire at 181 N. Washington St. (Box 3-04). Truck 27 responded with a crew of 6 led by the Chief. Engine 27-1 was alerted to fill the box as a tanker hauling 1500 gallons of water. Truck 27 arrived and staged on side Alpha while Franklin County Co. 3 (Greencastle) investigated and found a malfunctioned furnace. Truck 27 was placed in available and returned to station 27.

13 October 2007 Morning Rush Crews were busy Sat. morning, sending a crew to Adams County Co. 5 (Arendtsville) and a cleaning crew for the Deputy Chiefs wedding that was later that day. Luckily we had no calls at either place so we were able to be ready for the wedding. Special thanks to Co. 4 (Clearsping) and FAO Sipes for covering our 1st due area so that we could enjoy the wedding and reception.

10 October 2007 Transfer to Franklin County At 12:57 hrs an Engine from Company 27 was alerted to transfer to Franklin County's Company 8 quarters. Engine 27-1 led by Chief Eckstine completed the transfer with a crew of 4 while Marion worked a house fire on the 3-08 box. During the transfer, Engine 27-1 ran 0 calls. Back home, however, Longmeadow was dispatched on a PIA as well as a medic assist making 6 calls total for the day.

7-13 October 2007 Fire Prevention Week 2007
Company 27 spent this week working with schools, churches and day care centers throughout the Longmeadow area to increase fire prevention and awareness. The members of Longmeadow taught over 450 local children fire safety and prevention techniques.

09 October 2007 LODD Transfer to Adams County Buchanan Valley (Adams County 27) Firefighter Adam Cole was killed on October 4, 2007 in a vehicle accident while responding to a Mountain Fire. The Meadow's thoughts and prayers go out to the members of his family and the Buchanan Valley Fire Company. Arendtsville shares a common border with Buchanan Valley similar to ours with Maugansville, and in an effort to allow them to attend the funeral, Rescue-Engine 27-2 transferred with a crew of three led by Deputy Chief Hopkins. The crew handled one call, just as Arendtsville units were returning and responded for the smoke investigation-possible mountain fire at Big Flats in Michaux State Forest. While on the transfer, crews at home handled the medical local.

07 October 2007 4-Call Sunday It was day number two for the National Apple Harvest Festival and this time the Chief led a crew of four to Arendtsville. The crew handled two EMS assists calls that were not on festival grounds this time. Prior to their arrival home, the Engine and Truck were alerted on the 13-Box (Maugansville) for the Kitchen Fire on Fairview Road in Cearfoss. Maugansville was able to handle a small fire and Engine 27-1 transferred to their quarters till they were able to return, handling one call for Maugansville while on the station fill.

06 October 2007 5-Call Saturday The day started at the Meadow just before 0630 hours when the Engine and Truck were alerted on the HFD Box for the Apartment Building Fire with Entrapment on Security Road. Units found a set fire on the exterior of the building and assisted HFD. Several building occupants had jumped from their second floor windows as their points of egress had been set ablaze. At 0745 hours, a crew of three led by the Deputy Chief transferred to Adams County, Pennsylvania Company 5 (Arendtsville) to staff Tower 5 during the National Apple Harvest Festival. The crew assisted on two EMS runs and a search for a lost child inside the festival. Additionally, they were alerted for a possible ceiling fire in the "Beef Barn" which turned out to be an electrical pole on fire outside the building. While that crew was on the transfer, the Engine, Truck, and Lt. Byard responded to NMS Healthcare at 1143 hours for the alarm sounding - finding a malfunctioning alarm. Then at 1214 hours, the Engine, Special Unit, and Lt. Byard responded along with HFD Engine 3, Utility 3 and Battalion Chief 3 (Dick Hopkins) for the Brush Fire in the area of the Creekside Inn. Units were able to make a quick knock on the fire and hold it with what they had. Later that evening, the usual medical local was handled by the Meadow for the Pediatric Traumatic Injury on Marsh Pike.
