Thanks to West Marine

The rail road service advised us that they were going to close tracks in the area.  With the Longmeadow Rd. tracks being one of the crossing closed, Chief 27 made arrangements with West Marine to park Engine 27-1 in their parking lot.  Once again, we would like to thank West Marine for their continued support of the Longmeadow Fire Company.

Basement of Wood

Just before the company meeting was called to order, headquarters set off tones for a transfer to co. 9.  Engine 27-1 responded with 4 to fulfill the spot.  Deputy Chief Hopkins was just ending his FF1 class at co. 9 when tones dropped for the second alarm to report to the scene of the fire for manpower.  D/C Hopkins jumped on 27-1 to upgrade it to a staff of 5.  Along with 27-1 responding from Leitersburg, Eng-Rescue 27-2 started to respond with the Chief and crew of 5 from The Meadow.  When 27-1 arrived on scene, D/C Hopkins was put in charge of operations and the rest of the crew went to work with others to remove a large amount of wood from the basement.  After about two hours of unloading the basement fire ground operations were ended and crews returned back to service.

Mayhem on I-81

Around 10:30 pm on November 3, 2007 Halfway  and Williamsport crews were alerted to an accident scene on the I-81 bridge crossing over the Potomac River.  Little did the crews know that it involved longtime firefighter Scott "Shorty" Adams of the Longmeadow Fire Co.  Upon arrival, crews from Williamsport worked on getting Shorty out of the car while Kevin Lewis led his crew in patient care.  Shorty was transported to Washington County Hospital to be checked out and was later released. The patients in the other vehicle were fine, as one was treated and released also.  On behalf of Longmeadow Fire, I would like to think all the crews and personnel that responded and saved our beloved Short Man.  Pictures of the incident are available on FirstResponder.com.

First due for Co. 9

At  0554 hrs Truck 27 was alerted to 21324 Litter St. (Leitersburg) for smoke in the house.  While responding, Chief 9 arrived on scene to find that there was light smoke in the house from a malfunctioning furnace.  Chief 9 cancelled all units except for what was on scene so truck 27 returned back to the station.
