30 June 2007 Training Burn The men and women of Longmeadow along with crews from Greencastle Company 3 and Community Rescue Company participated in a house burning on Northpointe Drive. After completing extensive training during Monday night drills in the house, including Mayday and Rapid Intervention Team training, truck company and engine company operations, and a special drill with the Washington County Sheriffs Department and Hagerstown City Police Departments SWAT, we put those skills to use and conducted live fire evolutions. Throughout the morning and afternoon, several scenarios were completed with no injuries. A lot of the new members, as well as some of the older ones, were able to hone their skills for the real deal. A great time was had by all, and a special thanks goes out to Bowman Development for donating the structure, Greencastle for bringing their tanker, Washington County Air Unit for filling our cylinders, the Washington County Photo Team for taking pictures, and Hancock Volunteer Fire Department for providing a crew to fill in our quarters, running one call. |

3 June 2007 Reported house fire Around 2030 hrs, units were dispatched to 13416 Pennsylvania Ave for a house on fire. Rescue Engine 272, Engine 271, Truck 27, and Chief 27 responded with a total of 17 firefighters. Units arrived on the scene with nothing evident and had units stage. Upon investigation by the Truck Company, it was determined that faulty wiring had burned and caused a moderate amount of smoke. Units returned to service, but only after the Truck Company were "BUZZED" by several birds living inside of the residence. By several, we mean approximately 70 parrots. Some of the fireman on the truck thought about going to get checked out for the bird flu, but were talked out of it. |
