NMS (Avalon Manor)
In the late evening
of January 14th, the box assignment was alerted for NMS Of
Hagerstown (formerly Avalon Manor Nursing Home) for the smoke in the
building. As units responded, FRC advised a possible fire in the
boiler room. Crews arrived to a smoke condition through out the
building, and heavy smoke in the boiler room. Chief Eckstine
arrived and assumed command. Upon further investigation, crews had
a furnace malfunction. The task then turned to ventilation.
Eventually, the home was cleared of smoke and the units cleared.
In all, Truck 27, rescue Engine 27-2 and Engine 27-1 responded with 12
firefighters.

Truck Goes Mutual Aid
At about 0949hrs,
Truck 27 was dispatched to assist Waynesboro PA again, this time for the
fire in the building at the Waynesboro Hospital. The Truck
responded immediately with 4 firefighters but was canceled enroute.
This call was picked up due to New Franklin's (Franklin County Co. 17)
truck being out of service. We'll try to enjoy these extra calls
until their new Truck arrives!
At 1315hrs, the Truck
was alerted to assist Frederick County, MD with the house fire.
Truck 27 responded with five under the direction of 'senior' firefighter
Scott Adams. This response was due to the City of Hagerstown being
short on Trucks because of training. We made the best of our
opportunity by arriving just behind Waynesboro's Tower 2.
Due to the traffic jam at the end of the lane, Truck 27 was able to make
it back the lane and assume the first due ladder responsibilities.
The Truck crew assisted with overhaul and chimney fire operations.
They returned after a few hours. On an interesting side note, on a
fire where we arrived as second due truck, we passed through some areas
where we're not even listed on the run card!

Building Fire In Waynesboro
At 0531hrs, Truck 27
was requested to transfer to Franklin County Company 2 (Waynesboro).
Truck 27 responded with a crew of 4 under the direction of Lieutenant
Turner. After arriving at Station 2 and watching the fire from out
back, the Truck was requested to the scene. Truck 27 took up
position on side "Delta" of the building and set up for ladder pipe
operations. Due to the construction of the building, crews from
Longmeadow were able to position the stick to flow water up and under
the roofline, making an effective knock down in their quadrant.
The Truck returned to Paramount around 0940hrs.

Truck, bringing Truck 27 and Chief Eckstine to the scene. Crews
assisted with overhaul and checked for extension.

First Call of 2007
With the safe bet for
"first call of the year" being CRS or maybe Halfway ambulance, few
people guessed the PIA in Longmeadow. However, at 0003hrs on
January 1st, Co. 27 was dispatched with surrounding resources for the
PIA at Northern and Pennsylvania Avenues. Crews found a routine
accident.

Scroll down for lots
of pictures from the PIA with fire on December 29th. The house in

home, so he only suffered minor lawn damage.
