Dumpster Fire At Mack

At 1339hrs, Longmeadow was dispatched for the construction dumpster on fire at Mack Truck.  Rescue-Engine 27-2 responded immediately with six firefighters along with Chief 27 (Ricker) in 27-0.  Crews put a quick knock on the small fire.

Thanks to Matt O'Connell for the pictures.  Maybe you could take a photo-journalism class, but never take the final exam.

PIA in Paramount

At 0446hrs, the assignment was alerted for the PIA with fire near the intersection of Marsh Pike and Longmeadow Road.  Captain 27 (Latimer) as the Duty Officer,  and Chief 27 (Ricker) arrived to find a single vehicle verses a telephone pole with the car fully involved.  Captain Latimer assumed command and determined there were 2 injured subjects near the vehicle.  The patients were located in a dangerous area underneath the wires that were attached to the sheared off pole.  Rescue-Engine 27-2 split crews and put a knock on the fire while addition crews tended to the patients.  Both patients were transported as Priority 1's.  The 12 Longmeadow firefighters on the scene were assisted by Rescue Squad 13 and 2 medic units from Community Rescue Service.

Finally, Some Updates...

The following is about 3 weeks of updates in no particular order-

Congratulations-

Over the past few weeks, firefighter Matt Sweitzer decided that although he changes jobs every week, he'd found the woman he wanted to stick with.  He proposed and she accepted.

The Happy Couple.

We've also had 2 firefighters complete MFRI Firefighter 1.  Firefighters Adam Ensling and Matt Sweitzer completed the 102 hour class.  Adam hopes to use his Longmeadow training to help him become a career firefighter one day.  Matt hopes to have 12 jobs next year.

Another Happy Couple.

Christmas Party-

On Monday, December 18th we had our Annual Station Christmas Party.  Members and their families enjoyed a meal together followed by a gift exchange.

Santa Runs a Few Calls-

Again this year, we were honored to give Santa a ride around Paramount.  The volunteers and Santa paraded around our first due handing out candy canes.  During the 4 evenings, the units handled several calls.  One of the calls was for smoke in the building.  Santa had command...

A Few Calls-

On December 14th, crews handled the auto fire in Fountainhead.

On December 13th, crews responded for the PIA on Eastern Blvd at the curve.  The occupants were lucky that the back seat was empty as the guard rail completely pierced the rear section of the vehicle.

On December 23rd, Truck 27 and Engine 271 responded with 8 firefighters to assist Franklin County Co. 3 (Greencastle) with a house fire.  Thanks to Funkstown (Co. 10) for covering our station until we could round up another crew of four firefighters for the second engine.  Check out Greencastle's web site for more info on the fire.

Engine 10-2 in Station 27.

Christmas Morning brought a dumpster fire in the Rest Haven Cemetery.  12 firefighters interrupted their gift opening and either responded to the scene or to the station at about 9am.  During the time since our last update, we have surpassed 800 calls for the year and elected the Officers and Board of Directors for next year.  All the elections were unopposed.

The Chief Officers for next year are as follows:

Chief of Department- Jason Eckstine

Deputy Chief- Adam Hopkins

Assistant Chief- Matt Byard

Bonanza A Success!!

Thanks once again for those who attended our winter Bonanza.  We managed to raise some money and have a good time doing it.  Thanks to all those from Longmeadow who went out of their way to prepare for this and every other Bonanza.

There were several hundred pictures taken that night, I'm sure we'll find a few that can be posted soon...
