At 1409 hours, Longmeadow was alerted for a house fire.  Chief 27 arrived on scene to find smoke showing on side Alpha from a working kitchen fire, one smoke inhalation patient coming out the front door and two other occupants refusing to leave.  Truck 27 laid a supply line from Cherry Tree Circle and Longmeadow Road to the house and prepared for quint operations while Engine 13-2 handled water supply.  Captain 27, riding the officer seat on Truck 27, assumed "Operations" after Chief 27 established "Cherry Tree Circle Command."  Chief 27 requested law enforcement for backup when two occupants refused to leave the structure.  Longmeadow crews handled extinguishment while firefighters from HFD Utility 3 made access to the attic to check for extension.  After extinguishment, ventilation and overhaul, the fire was determined to be cooking related.

At 1408 hours, Longmeadow firefighters and HFD Engine 3 were dispatched to Godloves Liquors on Antietam Drive for a furnace malfunction.  Lt Martin responded and was advised by Headquarters that a contractor was working on the furnace and that it was on fire.  Engine 3 arrived with heavy black smoke coming from the chimney and roof areas.  The operator of Engine 3 and personnel from HFD Utility 3 investigated and found fuel oil burning in the area of an attic furnace.  Lt Martin assumed command and requested the Box to be filled and an additional ladder truck.  Engine 27-1 reverse laid from Truck 27 on side 2, to the nearest hydrant on Eastern Blvd while the Truck laddered the roof.  Firefighters accessed the fire and extinguished it using foam.  This was a labor intensive job requiring extensive overhaul and property conservation.

15 Longmeadow firefighters responded to this call, while 6 more attended Rescue Tech. Class with Rescue Engine 27-2.  Special thanks to all the fire police that assisted and to the Longmeadow Auxiliary for providing a meal after the call.

At approximately 1245 hours, Longmeadow firefighters were dispatched to Blackberry Lane in Maugansville's first due area for a house fire.  Engine 27-1 responded first with four firefighters.  Because Maugansville's Engines had already laid out and picked up the hydrant, 27-1's crew went to the roof of the structure.  Truck 27 arrived and set up a RIT team with the fire attack was still under way.  Through out extensive overhaul, Company 27 threw salvage covers and worked to find hotspots hidden in the roof area.  Check out Company 13's website for pictures of the indicent:
