17th 2004.

On October 8th, personnel and units
from Longmeadow attended the official ground breaking ceremony for Mack
Trucks new Engine Development Laboratory to be located at their complex on
Pennsylvania Avenue. Several dignitaries were on hand, including
Governor Robert Ehrlich and Swedish Ambassador Jan Eliasson.
Longmeadow would like to say thank you to Community Rescue Service for
providing a medic unit for standby at the event.

At 1035 hours, units from Longmeadow
were alerted for a PIA in the 19400 block of Leitersburg Pike.
Company 27 unites arrived on scene to find a "head-on" collision with one
occupant still in a vehicle with no entrapment. Crews from
Longmeadow handled hazard control, Rescue Squad 75 handled stabilization
and the medic units handled patient care. Patient was transported to
WCH by Medic 75-9. Units cleared at 1130 hours.

At 0918 hours, units from Longmeadow
were dispatched for a barn fire at 17810 Broadfording Road. Deputy
Chief 13 went on the scene with light smoke showing from a small shed,
holding all units. The fire was quickly extinguished and command
released all units.

At 0546 hours, units from Longmeadow
and HFD were alerted for a house fire at 737 Wash Ave. Battalion
Chief 2 went on the scene with a working fire also calling for the air
unit and a medic unit. Truck 27 arrived with a 6 person crew and was
assigned RIT operations under Captain Eckstine. Once the fire was
knocked, Battalion Chief 2 requested that Truck 27 transfer to HFD Station
4. Truck 27 covered one call for the city while transferred and was
released just before 0700 hours.

It's a Boy! Fire Chief John
Latimer and his wife Cassandra Latimer welcomed Austin Michael Latimer in
to the world on October 5th at 2121 hours. Austin weighed 7 pounds,
10 ounces and was 21 inches long. Mom, Dad and Baby are all doing
well. Stay tuned for pictures of the newest member to the Longmeadow
family.

At 0216 hours, Longmeadow and
Maugansville were dispatched for an AFA at 14014 Marsh Pike, Avalon Manor
Nursing Home. Assistant Chief Matt Byard marked up and headquarters
advised him that they were receiving calls from the facility stating there
was smoke in the building. Truck 27's crew went inside and had a
strong odor of smoke throughout the building. Engine 13-2 hit the
sprinkler while their crew assisted inside. Engine 27-1's crew
assisted with seting the stick and commencing roof operations.
Engine 27-2 took the hydrant. Crews working inside found a burned up
air compressor after searching for approximately 45 minutes. Company
13 units were released while Company 27 stayed on scene to ventilate the
building.
