At 1627hrs, Longmeadow was alerted for an investigation in the 13400blk of
Pennsylvania Ave. 9-1-1 calls had indicated anything from several hay
bales to a barn being on fire. Car 27 arrived first advising a burning
pile of unknown items 60ft in diameter, 4ft deep, flames 30ft in the air
with a barn 30ft to the south and another structure 60ft to the east, with
a impending severe thunderstorm. Lieutenant Hopkins established Command
and requested additional assistance from mutual aid companies. Crews
brought the fire in check quickly and prevented exposures from sustaining
damage. Units cleared at 1917hrs. The Division of Environmental
Health is investigating.
