On July 22, Longmeadow Firefighters were dispatched on three calls in a one hour span.  The first was a CO detector sounding, immediately followed by a minor motor vehicle accident.  At 2218 hours, Truck 27 was dispatched on the box assignment for the row house fire on Clarkson Ave.  Truck 27 responded immediately with 6 firefighters.  Upon arrival, HFD Battalion Chief 2 assigned the crew to the rear of the houses.  The crews divided with one group opening up several holes in the roof due to the multiple dwellings involved.  The other crew hooked ceiling to find and knock fire hidden in the walls of the exposure house.  Truck 27 remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours.  Station 2 also maintained several crews in-house while the Truck was out with 14 firefighters standing by.

On July 5th, Longmeadow firefighters took part in the annual "Mile Long Yard Sale."  Over the years, the event has grown to be much more than a mile long.  Much of the Longmeadow community participates in the event.  The Longmeadow Auxiliary rented out space inside the station for vendors to set up in for the day.  In addition, the Auxiliary set up a food stand to service the thousands of patrons in the area.  The event was a huge success according to Auxiliary President, Rachel Eckstine.

"It was an exciting day.  Everything went very smoothly.  The company definitely benefited from participating in this event."

NBC 25 covered the "Mile Long Yard Sale" and reported that the most interesting item for sale that they found was Longmeadow's own Engine 27-2.  For details about the sale of Engine 27-2 contact Chief Latimer or President Flint.
