Santa Claus visited the Longmeadow neighborhoods for the second year in a row.  He would like to remind all the boys and girls of the Longmeadow area to be good for the rest of the holiday season and to remember he will start watching them for next year on December 26th.

At 1800 hours, the Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Company placed into service a 2005 Pierce Enforcer Rescue Engine.  Members gathered at the station to enjoy a holiday meal and celebrate the completion of the newest piece in the Longmeadow fleet.  After dinner, the active firefighters joined in the ceremonial pushing of the Engine into the firehouse.  The Chief extended a special thanks to all those who helped to make the achievements of the company this year possible.

At 0930 hours, Longmeadow was dispatched for the Engine and Truck to the house fire on Old Forge Road in Leitersburg's (Company 9) first due.  Truck 27 arriving first, led by Captain Eckstine set up in a defensive position to protect exposures and overhead power lines that were threatened by the blowing fire.  The Truck was later repositioned to utilize the ladder pipe after the threat to exposures was neutralized.  Engine 27-1's crew assisted in fire attack, while Chief Latimer assisted Chief 9 with Incident Command duties.  Fire Marshall's believe ashes left on the back porch ignited and were fed by steady winds that gusted to over 50 mph.  10 Longmeadow firefighters assisted on the call.  The house is reported to be a total loss.
