Santa Claus visited the Longmeadow
neighborhoods for the second year in a row. He would like to remind
all the boys and girls of the Longmeadow area to be good for the rest of
the holiday season and to remember he will start watching them for next
year on December 26th.

At 1800 hours, the
Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Company placed into service a 2005 Pierce
Enforcer Rescue Engine. Members gathered at the station to enjoy a
holiday meal and celebrate the completion of the newest piece in the
Longmeadow fleet. After dinner, the active firefighters joined in
the ceremonial pushing of the Engine into the firehouse. The Chief
extended a special thanks to all those who helped to make the achievements
of the company this year possible.

The members of Longmeadow would like
to extend their deepest sympathies to the friends and family of
Firefighter Jackson H. Gearhart. Gearhart succumbed to injuries
sustained while operating on a fireground in Chambersburg, PA on November
30th 2004.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday,
December 8th 2004 from 6 - 8 PM at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112
West King Street, Shippensburg, PA. Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, December 9th at 1 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 225
South 2nd Street, Chambersburg, PA.

The members of Longmeadow are
working hard to put Rescue Engine 27-2 in service as soon as possible.
We hope to have the engine in service before the first of the year.
Check back for pictures of the progress of the newest member to
Longmeadow's fleet.

01 December 2004
At 0930 hours, Longmeadow was
dispatched for the Engine and Truck to the house fire on Old Forge Road in
Leitersburg's (Company 9) first due. Truck 27 arriving first, led by
Captain Eckstine set up in a defensive position to protect exposures and
overhead power lines that were threatened by the blowing fire. The
Truck was later repositioned to utilize the ladder pipe after the threat
to exposures was neutralized. Engine 27-1's crew assisted in fire
attack, while Chief Latimer assisted Chief 9 with Incident Command duties.
Fire Marshall's believe ashes left on the back porch ignited and were fed
by steady winds that gusted to over 50 mph. 10 Longmeadow
firefighters assisted on the call. The house is reported to be a
total loss.
