Longmeadow was awarded $9,846 in the fifth round of
the United States Fire Administration's FIRE Act. Company 27 was one
of some 500 other companies that were awarded funds. In this round
alone, 31 million dollars have been distributed. Longmeadow will be
using its share of the money to replace aging hose line on all apparatus.

September 15, 2002
At 1339, units from Longmeadow were alerted for a
personal injury accident in the area of the YMCA on Eastern Blvd.
Units arrived to find one vehicle on its roof with one patient entrapped.
Longmeadow crews assisted with patient extrication and care, traffic
control and clean up. Patient was transported priority 2 to
Washington Country Hospital by Co. 75. Units cleared the scene at
1439.

September 3, 2002
At 0942, units from Longmeadow, Leitersburg,
Smithsburg, and Waynesboro PA responded to a silo fire on Rinehart Road.
Engine 9-2 with Asst Chief 9 arrived on the scene with smoke showing.
Deputy Chief 9 arrived on the scene and established Command 9. Engine 9-2
was the attack pumper, units from Waynesboro, PA and Smithsburg
established water supply and Truck 27 laddered the silo. Fire was
contained to the unloading chute and quickly extinguished. Units remained
on scene until Operations Asst Chief 9 advised he was confident that the
fire was out. Command 9 was terminated and units were placed in service.
